Soil Mechanics of High Speed Rail Tracks
نویسنده
چکیده
As high speed rail is becoming increasingly popular around the globe, alignments are being forced onto marginal land due to land costs and the requirement for straight tracks. Rail foundations spread the applied wheel loads to prevent damage to the underlying in-situ soil upon which tracks are built. Designs which cannot sustain the resulting stresses will cause serviceability issues and will require overhaul, disrupting services and costing heavily. The project investigates such problems and is computational in nature, employing Imperial College’s Finite Element Program (ICFEP) for a parametric study. Increasing ballast layer thickness has been shown to decrease both deflection under load and cause less strain in the subgrade, thus improving performance and design life. It has also been shown crushed rock ballast may be replaced by cheap, sustainable sandy sub-ballast. The study shows despite the additive effect of many wheel impulses, track movements are smaller at higher speeds.

Effect of Rail Corrugation on the Amount of Train Induced Vibrations near a Historical Building
The evaluation and control of the trains induced vibrations needs even more attention in the case of underground tracks which passes near to monuments and historical sites. The rail corrugations which occur due to the wheels’ impulse loads during the operation period of underground railway tracks, usually amplify the ground borne noise and vibration. In the current study, the mentioned phenomen...

The main design criteria of ballasted railway tracks include rail deflections, rail bending stresses, rail wheel contact stresses, sleeper bending moments and ballast sleeper contact pressures. Numerous criteria have been defined for the design of ballasted railway tracks owing to the various mechanical properties of track components and their complex interaction. Therefore, railway track desig...

High speed intercity passenger rail is an inherently strong railway application. It operates over 250 km/hour. For perspective, high-speed represents the ultimate development of preexisting standard gauge infrastructure. متن کاملRail Movement and Ground Waves Caused by High-speed Trains Approaching Track-soil Critical Velocities
During the last decade Railways have become one of the most advanced and fast developing branches of transportation technology. The reason is very high speeds achievable by the most advanced modern trains (French TGV, German ICE, Italian Pendolino, Swedish X2000, Spanish AVE, Belgium Thalys, the Eurostar) and very low air pollution per passenger compared with road vehicles. Unfortunately, the i...
